About Us Government Tourism Recreation Organizations Chamber of Commerce

Welcome to Scottsville! From its founding in 1744, Scottsville has been an important part of Central Virginia's history. The town's location on the James River was vital to area commerce and made it a natural choice for the original county seat of Albemarle County.

Today, the county's only incorporated town is a great place to live, visit, or own a business. We welcome new residents and new businesses to become part of our community. We invite you to take a walking tour of our historic town, including a scenic walk on top of the levee built to protect the town from future flood damage. And please be sure to visit all our shops, restaurants, parks, and cultural and historic spaces. We are proud of our people, history, river, and architecture; and we encourage you to enjoy the best of Scottsville for yourself.
